Yup, I'm here in San Francisco with Mooney!
She's at work now, and I'm using her SUPER slow internet to try and blog before I go out on my exploration today. Steph couldn't get off of work for this week, so I'm entertaining myself and going out on explorations on my own. I have NEVER had to explore an unknown city on my own before, this is actually my First time. I have a very very bad sense of direction. Very bad. It took me a whole semester to actually say that I feel comfortable with moving around Miami's campus on my own without having to always only use the same path to and from buildings.
Steph lives in NobHill which is kinda close to everything. I learned that San Francisco actually isn't very big after all, and everything is within walkable distance, or is reachable by bus or train. I'm trying to be savvy and so I walk everywhere. I figured, I need the exercise anyway to burn off my winter chubbiness and calories that I was forced to intake in Chicago. San Fran is actually very hilly, so walking is really exercise. I had Chinatown dimsum with Wendy yesterday, another Beijing friend and it was sooo good. $8 shared between the both of us and we had 2 orders of ha gou, 2 orders of siew mai, 1 bowl of chuk, 1 piece of loh bak gou and 1 piece of chee cheong fun. Ahh.. sooo goood! I was sooo full by the time we were done. Chinatown in San Fran is amazing. Loads more fun than Chinatown of Chicago. Grocery shops and Bakeries are my fav places to visit in Chinatown. Those are the places that I can get potato bread, bak tong gou, dan tat (egg tarts), lou poh peng.... Indo Mee, Maggi Mee, Milo, Old Town Coffee, Bin Bin biscuits, Lot 100 gummies, shimui... ahhhh. I don't buy a whole lot to save money, but looking at them on the shelf gives me some sort of comfort... Don't know why. Watching old people bargain for veggie, fish and meat prices in Cantonese, reminds me of home. Yeah, I love the Chinatown in San Fran.. can you tell? I'll go back again tomorrow to grab bites from bakeries and shop or look around a little.
Anyway, after Chinatown, Wendy left me and I explored Union Square on my own. Went into the 3 story Forever 21 and spent hours there, trying on clothes but ending up buying only 1 item of clothing for a good price. Union Square really is a shopping haven. They seriously had every brand under the sun. After about 5 hours there, I walked to Steph's office to meet her after work, and didn't get lost!! Then we went to Fisherman's Wharf to have Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and calamari. It was really good. Then we had a mint icecream sundae with Ghirardelli chocolate at Ghirardelli Square. It was the best sundae ever! Walked back with my stomach churning because of the mix of food. We had a good time together, Steph and I. I hope she did, at least! haha.
The reason why I'm taking the trouble to type all this down without any pictures, is because I don't have any pictures to post! Forgot my camera, hence could not take any pictures.. and had to listen to Steph's "Suling!!! Why didn't you bring your camera! You bring your camera everywhere...!! why didn't you bring it this time!!!" -___-
Alcatraz Prison today. Gotta walk back to Fisherman's Wharf and catch a ferry. Hopefully I won't get lost today! o_O Camera! gotta remember to bring my camera!!! :)
