2010 is here.
Kinda crazy huh. It's already 2010. I remember when it was the year 2000. And thinking how weird it was to have the year start with the number 2 instead of the usual number 1. 10 years have passed since then. 10 years!!! I have changed and grown so much since the year 2000. I started and finished high school. I hated Sri Aman in the beginning of year 2000 but then ended up loving it and not wanting to leave it in 2004. Then I had National Service for three months in 2005 which turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. An experience that taught me the importance of looking at friends beyond the color of their skin. Then I started A-Levels and finished it in May 2006. What I will always remember from A-Levels: 'theme days', finally talking to Satvinder, lab coats, titration experiments, the everyday dilemma of what to have for lunch, my friends teasing me about have McD milkshakes for lunch, Sat's April Fool's Day joke, Yish' and I riding the bus together... and so much more. It was during that time that I decided to go along with my mum's plan of studying in the US. Then got on the plane with 2 girls I barely knew for a more than 20 hour flight to Oxford, Ohio.. and thus this blog was born.
I'm on break now. It's the 2nd week of break and I am back in Oxford, Ohio... blogging from my apartment. I came back from Chicago 4 days ago. I spent Christmas there with the brother and Dong. It was freezing cold and snowy the whole time. But it was still nice... Shopping, Eating, Sleeping, Tv-ing, a lil sight seeing makes up a good vacation! Before that, I spent a few days in Bloomington, Indiana at Joliana's apt with the clan: Annie, Hui, Dong and Jin (the new addition). It was just like Freshman year all over again... only this time with Jin. It was a good few days, not too many days for us to get sick of each other, not too few days for us to feel like we didn't spend enough time with each other... Even managed to do a mini-'White Elephant' gift-exchange with everyone before we all headed our separate ways for break. Ah, what better way to start off my last Winter Break as an Undergrad with the people who matter the most to me throughout my college life. From Freshman year, to Senior year, they've been my rocks. Even managed to go through with the plan of stopping by at Jenny's on the way back from Chicago. Next Stop: San Francisco!
New Year's eve is different for me last slash this year. And I am really happy. I guess it's different when there's someone around who wants to make things special for you and only you. To have someone who makes you want to be a better person, who always looks out for you. And I like that feeling. It has been a good almost two months and I look forward to everything this year will bring. :)
One of my dad's childhood friend whom I used to be intimidated of when I was younger, but adore now that I am older found out that he has pancreatic cancer. And he's not doing very well. He is the one that gives me the courage to do whatever I want to do without worrying about what other people think. Whenever he comes to visit, I am struck by his daredevil-ness that is still apparent even at his age and I always think to myself that I want to be like him. I have been thinking about him often, and will be praying for a miracle.
Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all smiles and laughter, good health, more time with your family, the courage to overcome obstacles and good opportunities to advance in school/careers/life....
